WHAT IS CHARITY?
All good deeds done for the sake of Allah, classified as material and spiritual, are within the scope of charity. For this reason, besides giving money, smiling faces are also considered charity. In addition to the obligatory zakat, charity-hasanat is also considered as charity. Charity should be given from clean and halal money. Goods or money obtained through illegitimate ways cannot be given to charity.
In addition, the most important issue in charity is sincerity, that is, sincerity. As our ancestors succinctly described as "the right hand will not know what the left hand gives", alms should be given secretly, sincerely and without showing off.
HOW MANY KINDS OF CHARITY ARE THERE?
There are 4 types of charity. These;
The obligatory sadaqah is zakat.
Fitr charity: Sadaka-i fitr is a wajib charity that every Muslim should give. It is given during the month of Ramadan. This is also called a fitr.
Nafilah alms: This is alms given by a person in pursuit of the consent of our Lord. Every good thing done for the sake of Allah is charity.
Sadaqah-i concubine: It is charity that writes rewards in our deeds even after we die. Charity-i concubine is all kinds of good deeds that benefit people, such as building mosques, roads, planting trees, fountains, and leaving useful scientific works.
WHO GIVES GOODNESS?
Since charity is not just about material things (being good, smiling, greeting, etc.), it is actually valid for everyone. However, since material/cash items are seen as charity in our society, everyone who can afford it should give alms. It is recommended that people who have reached a certain level of wealth give alms other than zakat, and this is emphasized a lot in the verses and hadiths.
TO WHOM DOES IT GIVE CHARITY?
One of the rich Companions Amr b. Jumuh asked the Prophet (saas) one day, "To whom should I give alms, O Messenger of Allah?" she asked. Thereupon, verse 215 of Surat al-Baqara was revealed. “They ask what they will give you as charity, say: -What you will spend out of charity; to parents, relatives, orphans, the poor and the wayfarer. Surely, Allah knows best what you do as good deeds.”
In this case, the orphans, the poor, the stranded, the victims and the oppressed, especially the parents and relatives in need, are the groups that can receive alms.
